John Wilpers' Editing Philosophy
I've been an editor and writer since 1972.
What I've learned over those years is that while some people love writing and others dread it, everyone can, with help, create written work that gets their message across clearly and concisely in a style that is consistent with their personality, position, and purpose.
To some, it comes naturally, but even they need an editor. For others, writing is either just a joyless chore or something of a headache or an unhappy, even excruciating process. No matter where you fall on that spectrum, I have learned how to be the editor who can help you create the piece of writing that will fulfill your mission with the right touch, tone, and quality.
JOHN'S CAREER
I have been an editor and writer since 1972, working at newspapers, magazines, and websites, large and small, urban, suburban and rural, domestic and international. I've run editorial departments ranging in size from four to four hundred. I've worked with seasoned pros and raw rookies. I've written and edited short, breaking news stories, medium-length feature stories, long, in-depth magazine articles. I am the author of eleven 45,000-word books.
I've either been writing or editing or both for almost 50 years. I know what it's like on both sides of the desk. I know how I want to be treated as a writer and how to empower other writers to reach their potential. I bring that awareness to our relationship as your editor.
